I am not a big proponent of astrology.
I mean this with no shade on you if you are—to each their own. I’m in no position to judge anyone’s superstitions or woo-woo beliefs considering that I still believe in my heart of hearts that what shirt I’m wearing has an impact on the outcome of a game I’m watching on television. Astrology has just never been my thing.
Except, you know, any time anyone describes literally any Gemini behavior, and I think “hmmm I do be like that sometimes”.
Such is the duality of late-May babies.
This is all an awkward way of saying that I turn 41 on Sunday, possibly the most anticlimactic age to turn. Last year I spent a ton of time and emotional energy thinking hard about what turning 40 meant, about my goals and aspirations and achievements to date. This year, I’m like “oh, that’s this week?”
Frankly, it’s kind of a relief. Who needs self-reflection anyway?
It’s just one more pass around the sun.
More importantly—it’s Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start to summer. If you’re here in the United States, you’ve (hopefully) got a three-day holiday weekend ahead of you. The pools are open, the schools are closed, and it’s time to grab a cold beverage and fire up the grill.
Here’s an artist’s depiction of my deepest inner thoughts as we run out this work week:
The long weekend is upon us, but first—it’s Friday, my favorite day of the week.
As with every Friday, I’ve got a loaded slate of ACBN-Certified Good Things lined up for you, with the express purpose of making your weekend just a little bit better.
This week, that includes:
Some absolutely terrific carne asada!
A drink that could be a cocktail, or non-alcoholic!
Good music, hilarious TV, discussion with the Internet’s Best Comment Section, and a parade of reader pets bringing up the rear!
I know you’re ready to slam that laptop shut for the weekend—but I want you to go out on a good note first. (Read this, then slam it shut.)
7) Every Day Should Be ‘Sada Day
Ahh, Memorial Day Weekend. The time when a young man’s fancy turns to grilling.
Once it’s warm out, I try to cook as many of my meals outside as possible, whether it’s on the gas grill or the charcoal smoker. I have a few tried-and-true standbys, but I’m always on the lookout for new things to try.
