I’m going to be finding sand in things for weeks.
As you may have noticed, I was away last week, taking my family on a nice, long-overdue beach vacation. After fifteen-plus months spent rarely leaving the county we live in, it felt great to get back out into the world, go somewhere else, and experience things like “arguing with my kids over screen time in a different house.”
Having not gotten in the beach shape I swore I’d be in by the time the trip rolled around and not caring either, I hauled my pasty DadBod out into the sun, played in the waves with the kids, and recharged for the first time in what felt like forever, all while managing to get less sunburned than I normally would. That’s a win in my book.
I was deeply grateful for the time away, but also ready for the transition it signals back home. The kids’ school year is over, things are looking better in general around where we live, and—if not astronomically—it’s emotionally summer.
