A short list of places I have considered moving to after spending 48 hours in them.
I’ve been thinking about travel lately.
That’s probably because we’ve all been doing so little of it. I took my family on a beach vacation at the beginning of the summer—a feat of lucky timing as Things were briefly tentatively good before getting very bad again—and I write this, I’m sitting in a nondescript business hotel on my first bit of day-job-related travel in nearly two years. Aside from those two exceptions, like most people, I’ve been rooted at home for essentially the whole of the still-young-but-not-great-so-far 2020s.
I haven’t missed the work travel, of course, but I have missed hitting the road. It’s not just the rest and relaxation, the sightseeing, or the new foods I might encounter that I miss, though. There’s one other aspect that’s been in short supply.
You see, I have a bit of a habit when it comes to this; perhaps you do too. If I spend at least 48 hours in any city worth even half a shit (or even one that’s not but can pass under the right conditio…
