Surely it should stand for “Goodboy” which does have a certain 18th century ring to it. (My wife was looking at her dad’s family tree the other day, specifically for the mayflower Yankee / New York Dutch section, and there were some cracking names on there; Goodboy Olaf wouldn’t have been out of place)
I can't complain about the picks. The wedding soup is legit (and I followed you fearlessly over the cliff and added more pasta than I knew better to.) My oldest daughter refers to it as Mommy Daddy soup because she now believes that the soup is what we had at our wedding.
The book recommendations were a hit for Christmas. Dad got the Mosquito Bowl and The Baseball 100, he acted like a kid with a new toy at Christmas and all he wanted to do was sit and read with our youngest napping on him.
Scott, have a Happy New Year. I am excited to continue this journey with you. Your newsletters have become a staple in my household, and my wife loves your Insta and will quiz me on whether I saw a dish/drink and when will I be making it for her.
You sent me on a whole journey this year with your red beans & rice recipe and gumbo article. I love Cajun food and have been experimenting. Thanks for those.
Claire and Matt are thrilled to claim you as a friend and kindred spirit. The best people flock to you, and we try to snag them as friends as well. Happy New Year!
Happy Birthday to Holly and Happy New Year to you and yours! Your essay in May, about your son’s triumph over his fear of the diving board captured my heart, and I’ve been a devoted, (and subscribed) reader ever since. Thanks for it all!
Another great year in the ACB family. The newsletter is the highlight of my inbox most days. Happy New Year and looking forward to more goodness in 2023. Go Bearcats.
As I have shared before, and just as prestigious, that Salmon Dill Burger recipe would 100% be my 6 year-old's recipe of the year. She asks for it minimum once a week.
I see “G. Olaf Hines” and I cannot help but think that the G stands for “GODDAMMIT”
You are exactly correct!

I love all of this, and happy new year to you too!
Thanks Scott, specifically for the laughter and creativity perspective.
Can I request a poll for next year: best emotional terrorism. 🤣😂

Anytime Olaf came crashing through the wall immediately made my day better. Big ups to the ACBN Family both real and internet based.
Top picks for me: 1) Holly 2) the sweet potato plus soup. It was a very good year, Scott. Love you (not wanting to get all emotional here).
I personally *never* get all emotional here... (love you too!)
Incidentally, I reheated some leftover sweet potato soup for dinner last night.
yesssss

I (Claire) stole Matt's login in case it wasn't obvious as to why Matt might be so extroverted and emotional. ;)
I figured it out before the followup, lol. Was such a pleasure finally meeting you both this fall!

Please tell Holly happy birthday from me!!
Happy birthday to Holly, hopefully they don't set your cake on fire this year.
Happy new year, and happy birthday to Holly!!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your break and Happy New Years! I can't wait to see what 2023 will bring us all.

Happy birthday Holly!
