"I carried a 40-pound child in my arms for well over a mile, not because she couldn’t walk that far but because I know the days where she’ll want me to carry her like that are running short. "
Mine are 19,15, and just turned 9. She's like 70 lbs, and I know exactly what you are talking about. That was a gut kicker. Everything else seems to be on pause, why can't we pause real life too?
It's nuts to look at pictures from the beginning of These Uncertain Times in March and see how much these two have grown in 7 months with everything else frozen
There is (or maybe was, given Covid) a bar in the Financial District of NYC that made the best burger I ever had. Meat, condiments, etc all added up to near perfection. I ate there for lunch and came back with my son for dinner that same day and had the same dang burger both times. I got it a third time on another visit a couple months later. A couple of months after that, the burger left the menu, and never returned, though I checked a couple of times. <sigh>

"...like a tree burr on a wool jacket." Oh man, I have a score of notions like that hooked into my brain, all topics. Perfectly described.
