I don't follow college football at all, but this essay broke my heart. A+

I couldn’t watch either, for much the same set of reasons, although I’d be lying if I claimed that I didn’t enjoy the hell out of the 0 yard punt return GIF that spread like wildfire Saturday evening. The Pac12 having called it a day early means that I don’t really have any personal tribal temptation. The real risk, I suspect, is that something will happen akin to my experience when the various Euro soccer leagues (the only other sport I watch) shut down: I didn’t miss it. I’ve watched some games since they came back online, a couple of Grand Prix races for old times’ sake, but I fear I may been burning an enormous amount of time on something that wasn’t quite as central to me as I thought. 😬

I will 100% find myself watching some SEC shithousing before the end of October though, I’m only human.

I tried to explain exactly this to my wife on Friday. This did it better. Thanks.

I had mostly avoided this hard reckoning (at least the 2020 version - I've been like this for years) because the B1G wasn't playing. College football consumption this season so far has consisted of having it on the background while doing something else, which is fine when it's a half-assed ACC season you're watching.

Welp. Here come my Wolverines, jumping to touch the banner. A half-assed B1G season is on its way, my cognitive dissonance is ramping up, and it's all scheduled to start about ten days before the election.

I'm going back to bed.
