I'd like to go to Asheville, NC, and hike in the mountains and drink beer. I'd like to go to Madison and St. Paul, and visit friends and family. I'd like to go to Washington wine country, see a new part of the US and learn a new bunch of grapes.
I'd like to take some of those smaller trips, bite-sized bits of travel in either places or modes I am comfortable with, so I can believe that the bigger trips (Banff! Berlin!) are viable dreams again.
The Derby’s such a great event — Friday’s newsletter is going to heavily focus on it — and it’s so sad to lose it this year. I’m not holding my breath for it in September, but I’d love to be wrong.
the only time I went I was not of legal drinking or gambling age (but bet on the winning horse) and have been dying to go back for a few years. This year the timing was finally going to work and here we are
My wife and I still have not canceled/postponed our flight to Italy in late June for a 10-day trip that is definitely not going to happen, so we are mourning/pining for that. We have also talked for years about going to the Bahamas to sit on the beach for a week. And last weekend we added Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon to the imaginary future trip list. But right now I'd love the security of knowing that we could go to MD, OH, or PA to visit our families and see everyone in person.
Yeah, honestly, my first trip once it's prudent to do so is going to be to see my parents in Columbus. (And leave my kids with them for a week. Or three.)
We were supposed to go to Jamaica for a week in March, so I'd like that to happen later in the year. I'm also itching to go back to Bonaire and do more scuba diving- might be my favorite place on Earth.
Were These Times not so Uncertain, I would have been on a two-week trip to Japan and Taiwan right now, so let’s say Japan and Taiwan for your question. But equally, Now More Than Ever, I’d just like to walk over to the bar, post up at the counter and have a plate of wings and a Two Hearted. So even while I’m doing the same thing of looking out maps and planning out trips to distant corners of the globe, the simple pleasure of having a meal and a drink outside of my home is equally, if not more appealing.
That sucks about your trip. I'm fortunate, I suppose, that the only Actually Planned thing to have been taken off the books for me was a drive up to Chicago.
Going places in general has been an ongoing discussion with my fiance in this pandemic. She's stuck at home, I still go into work as my business is considered "essential" and I can't do my work remotely.
We've talked about going places, my friends and I are hoping a road trip we planned for July can still happen, though we doubt the music festival we'd go to still going to happen.
One of the things we've been thinking about is how we want to go to bar trivia or board game night and just see some other people.
My wife and I went to Hawaii last year on our honeymoon, spending three days in Honolulu and a week on Maui. It was incredible, and afterwards we said we'd go back one day, maybe in 5 or 10 years - after all, it would be a great place to bring kids.
Since Times Like These started, we've also talked about this a lot, and provided we don't lose our jobs or experience some financial crisis between now and then, we're going back as soon as the vaccine hits my arm. We'll go see some other islands. Or maybe we'll go to the exact same places.
I got my big escape this year - after spending the entire month of February at Mardi Gras (one ball in New Orleans, mostly in Mobile), my husband and I went to England for a 10-day trip that ended March 4. Things were starting to get serious as we got back. We got one last happy hour in at our beloved local, spent one more day sitting on the beach, made a big (but not hoarding) grocery store run, and settled in for the duration. Thank the universe for February - had I not had such a big time, March and April may have done me in.
All I can think about is all the places I want to go and all the crowds I want to be in the second it's possible. I want to go driving in the mountain west and see bison herds. I want to take the dance class I drop in on in midtown Manhattan when I'm there for work. I even want to drive from my office in Woodland Hills, CA to LAX in high rush hour traffic, which should tell you how stir-crazy I am right now.

"learn a bunch of new grapes" is such a good phrase and good dream
Thank you!
I still have the september Kentucky Derby that almost certainly isn't happening circled as my "next big trip"

That's true -- I'd love to go out West and see some big open sky, but I'd also kill to read a book in a bar right now.
Both of these. I want to go to a bar so badly
and not a nice one. I want a watery Bud Light on a weathered bar.
With an Old-fashioned chaser. Or, a good brewery with hot wings

Oh, co-sign the Derby too.

I never thought I’d miss commuting, but I do!
Thank you for sharing your cookbook. You bring me joy.
Thank you!
I was supposed to be on a river cruise from Lyon to Avignon in early April, and drink my weight in French wine. Alas.
you can still get blasted on three-buck-chuck on a pool float as soon as the weather gets warmer
Pool opening May 18, so I've got plans
