Not for nothing, I often argue that Louisville has a "first 48 hours" to rival cities many times its size. It falls off sharply after that, but it's a fantastic place for a weekend trip.
Once we confirm the date, I'll be sure to announce it with plenty of lead time.
What a perfect descriptor. I feel like Mobile is similar: great for a long weekend, a little longer if it's Mardi Gras season, and then... well, we've pretty much done all the things, haven't we.
It's not a bad place for a smaller-ish city to be! There are plenty of bigger cities that can't deliver that good a long weekend.
Then there's Las Vegas, which is a blast but that I firmly believe has a 72-hour body clock for 95% of people. After 72 hours, you need to be headed to the airport.
I like boudin blanc. I like paella. I would eat the hell out of those paella balls. If I have any thoughts at all about the results, it’s that I bet they don’t even need the sauce & aoli, and that while it would probably be a bit of a faff, smaller ones would be the most amazing tapas. I’m willing to be a guinea pig should you need one
Actually one of our key takeaways after testing was that they should be smaller and served in multiples. I just figured I’d keep the recipe as I made it so it matched the picture.
In a manner of speaking... yes! Lou Oyster Cult (Michael and Charlotte) do pop-up events here frequently, and I'm going to be coat-tailing on their expertise, connections and certifications. I'm going to provide a few menu items, they're going to prepare them, and it'll be at a legitimate restaurant or bar; it'll be a LOCxACBN crossover event. I'm very excited.
So glad Louisville is driving distance!! We'll have to have an official ACBN Caravan from Columbus, picking up Cincy folks on the way haha! Scott, so thrilled to see ACBN thriving. Happy weekend!
Todays recipe is the reason why I gifted a subscription to my parents. There was an audible gasp when I scrolled down to the photo of the finished Barcelona Ball and that cross section *chefs kiss*
Pretty sure the next time the family gets together the menu will consist of ACB creations.
I enjoy Star Trek Picard, and tried to watch the ready room, which Wheaton hosts, but he's just so unpleasantly over the top that I couldn't take it. Less, please.
So… it’s May, so you must know what that means for anyone from Indiana. This morning, the cannons boomed in Speedway, IN; signaling the beginning of the best month of the year…. Since the Derby has an iconic cocktail for the fastest 2 minutes in sports, I really think that The Greatest Spectacle in Racing needs one too (besides anything from Anheiser Busch). Can you invent “the spark plug?! Maybe something that pairs well with flattened, fried pork tenderloin?!?!?!?
Boudin balls were my favorite thing about law school in Louisiana. All of us out of staters fell in love with them. And if it's any consolation/defense against purists, there were at least 5 kinds of boudin - including crawfish boudin - regularly commercially available at the store in Baton Rouge. So I'm here for your interpretation.
Also, and I may have told this here before: no fewer than three of my fellow out of state classmates and I all got dogs that we named Boudin during law school. It's a thing. (RIP to my ex's best buddy, Boudin the Boston terrier, nine pounds of adorable pugnaciousness who tolerated me and soul-bonded to him, 2007-2019).
Serious FOMO seeing Prince Daddy in today’s newsletter after missing them when they came to town last week since I couldn’t find anyone to go with.
I’d love to hear your take on going to concerts solo. I’ve yet to try it myself but my New Years resolution was to go to more concerts and trying to find someone to go with can be a huge bottleneck.
TBH, I haven't done it in a while--mostly just because I haven't been to many concerts at all in the past 5-6 years (babies, then COVID) but I did it plenty in my teens and 20s and I think it can be a blast.
I'm not the world's most social guy, and I travel a fair amount for work so I'm used to being at a bar or eating alone, which doesn't bother me. So your mileage may vary. But I've seen several fun shows while traveling and given free evenings while travelling, I will check out Pollstar or BandsInTown and listen to a few samples and see if anything interesting hits. If I'm smiling and having a good time that same energy comes back, whether it's from a friend or from strangers.
I recently discovered BandsInTown thanks to a coworker and that’s been a huge motivator for me on this venture. It’s amazing how many shows are coming through town that I was completely oblivious to before.
Dagnabbit, we dumped HBO a while back and I've been feeling super smug about that. I completely forgot about Barry.
Pre-pandemic a pal of mine had a little feature on Chicago public TV where every Friday they'd take something and, well, deepfry it in oil. You might enjoy.
The dumbest math I do is agonizing over the money spent on streaming services without adequately calculating the joy/escape/sanity it brings me. I spend more on two shitty takeout lunches than I do for a month of, say, my Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle, and yet I regularly gnash my teeth over it, plus Netflix, plus Apple TV, plus the Big Ten+ Softball package, plus etc etc. I would watch be BEJEEZUS out of an Acorn subscription but I deny myself that luxury and I can't tell you why
I almost stopped at organ meat because 🤮 but glad I didn't, those sound delicious!! A live event with food like that would absolutely draw me in! And "thanks" for the Nsync earworm. I might come back and curse you again in a few hours.
Not me googling flight prices to Louisville for an in-person Action Cookbook Lifestyle Network event

The "Cincinnati Codicil".
My wife keeps telling me I need to get out of the house more. She didn't say anything about how far I could go, so Louisville here I come.

Smaller balls would be spectacular bar food or tapas
I feel like a culinary genius now, I’m going to take the day off work so nobody spoils my mood
on your way to opening shops in bethesda, new york, LA, and sydney (for the winter holidays)
gonna make these and put them in a waffle cone so i can take em on the go.
SCOTT ARE YOU OPENING A POP UP RESTAURANT FOR YOUR LIVE EVENT

Thank you, and happy weekend to you too!

Yesssssss
The caption on the cross-section was my fave newsletter moment today

I'm gonna read Kaiju ASAP
Is there anything Wil Wheaton can't actively make worse?
Let’s not say anything he can take as a dare.
It's like they say "Where there's Wil, there's a way to get worse!"
maybe he should won't wheaton

I happily accept this challenge.

You are absolute correct in thinking that I would enjoy this.
Also, I've been finding I watch HBO the most of the streaming services lately, FWIW.

Prince Daddy hive assemble!
Ok but how do you pronounce the name of the balls
like you’re Gambit in X-Men: The Animated Series
